These beautiful plecos are commonly found in Rio Orinoco in the Amazon, as well as Venezuela, lower Rio Guaviare, and Columbia. Despite its misleading trade name, the Blue 'Panaque' is not part of the genus Panaque it has little or nothing in common with these large, wood eating catfishes.
